Ayushman Bharat Health Scheme -
Freedom from Hospital Expenses
Prime Minister Sri. Narendra Modi announced the launch of "Ayushman Bharat - National Health Protection Scheme" in his Independence Day speech on 15th August 2018.
Ayushman Bharat scheme will benefit over 10 crore poor families which approximately cover50 crore citizens. The scheme provides coverage of upto 5 lakh rupees for each
family per year for secondary and tertiary care hospitalization.
Key feature of Ayushman Bharat- National Health Protection Mission are :-
- the beneficiaries can get the treatment in both public and empanelled private hospitals.
- the Scheme will provide defined benefit cover of Rs.5 Lakh per family per year.
- With this scheme, eligible families can get the treatment across the country that too cashless benefit.
- States would need to develop State Health Agency (SHA) to implement the schme. This agency will take care of financial transactions between State/ UT and Central Government.
- The scheme is going to cover nearly 40% of the population of the poorest & the vulnerable.
- the coverage of Rs. 5 Lakh is applicable for the entire family (family floater basis) without the family size restriction.
- This scheme is going to benefit poor , deprived rural families and identified the occupational category of urban worker's families as per the latest Socio - Economic Caste Census (SECC) data covering both rural and urban areas.
Ayushman Bharat scheme is going to be launched on 25th September 2018 on the anniversary of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay
